Kaminari UK Taiko

ABOUT US

Kaminari UK Taiko formed in 2009. Mary Murata, who had lived and worked in Japan, had seen and fallen in love with the art form and brought Liz Walters of Tamashii Daiko to York to teach workshops. Not long after, an informal practice group was formed.
From those early days practicing on upturned bins we have grown into an established performance group playing a mixture of traditional Japanese pieces and original compositions. We regularly work with Michael Graham, a practitioner of shamisen and koto, and are always looking for other new and interesting collaborations. We have previously teamed up with a Japanese dancer,  local poets and even a very popular local ukulele group.
