ABOUT US
Kaminari UK Taiko formed in 2009.
Mary Murata had first encountered Taiko whilst living and working in Japan and invited Liz Walters of Tamashii Daiko to teach a series of workshops in York. A small group of enthusiasts soon formed an informal practice group using upturned bins and homemade bachi (drum sticks).
From those early days, we have grown into an established performance group playing a mixture of traditional Japanese pieces and original compositions. We regularly work with Michael Graham, a musician specialising in shamisen and koto, and LJ English, an Enka singer.
We are always looking for new and interesting collaborations and have previously teamed up with a Japanese dancer, local poets and even a popular local ukulele group.
